About Me

My photo
ted@amenta.com
I am an artist and architect who paints daily in a cow-barn in the northeast corner of Connecticut. I entered Pratt Institute in 1961, when New York painting was dominated by Abstract Expressionism and architecture by unyielding modernism. Realism, humanism and figurative painting, the basis of the Atelier system at Pratt were under attack. Unconvinced, in 1964, I traveled to Europe to study classical painting and architecture and lived in a small colony of expatriate artists in MIjas-Malaga, Spain. I was graduated from Pratt in 1967. My painting is not bonded by realism or abstraction, oil, acrylic, digital or mixed media, montage or paper cut-outs. I may draw a composition in advance of painting or may simply paint alla prima. I have unrelentingly traveled the world for 50-years, collaborating on urban and resort design (www.amentaco.com). I have been a design critic and lecturer at numerous universities including a course on the Act of Creating at Columbia and.....I have filled 30 plus sketch books upon which to draw inspiration.
